Teams from both sides of the Hungarian-Romanian border gathered for a day of friendly competition, including participants from Debrecen, Biharfélegyháza, Bakonszeg, Biharkeresztes, and Oradea. The program featured strength, coordination, and agility challenges specially designed for older adults, promoting both physical activity and social engagement.
The Oradea team prepared enthusiastically for several weeks under the guidance of physiotherapist Erika Kovács. The training sessions complemented the regular exercise programs offered at the elderly home and contributed to improving participants’ overall fitness and well-being.
A special aspect of the event was a joint project with the Physiotherapy Department of the University of Oradea. Under the supervision of Dr. Klára Kálmán, students conducted detailed assessments of the participants and assisted in running the competition activities.
Following welcome addresses by Mayor Béla Péter Dani and the host institution’s director, Katalin Gyöngyi Nagy Zsoltné Kiss, participants enjoyed a lively warm-up session featuring seated dance exercises and coordination games.
At the end of the competition, the Saint Elizabeth Elderly Home team narrowly missed the podium and finished in fourth place. We are proud of their achievement and congratulate all participants and the professionals who supported them.
The event concluded with a special group photo of participants over the age of 90 and a shared fellowship meal. We thank the organizers for their invitation and hospitality and look forward to meeting again at next year’s Senior Olympics.
