The delegation represented parish communities from the Austrian towns of Texing, Maria Anzbach, and Kirnberg an der Mank. Throughout the year, these communities collect non-perishable food, medical aids, and various donations. Mr. Zidar regularly gathers these contributions during his visits and personally transports them to Oradea to support the social and charitable work of Caritas Catolica.
As part of their visit, the delegation was received by Bishop László Böcskei. Their discussion focused on several current topics, including interdenominational cooperation in supporting the sick and vulnerable, as well as the challenges facing Christianity today amid geopolitical changes and the increasing number of extreme natural disasters caused by climate change, particularly in the context of Austrian dioceses recently affected by flooding. The meeting concluded with all participants feeling strengthened in their mission and commitment. Before leaving, the guests viewed the Relic Bust of Saint Ladislaus preserved in the Episcopal Palace and admired the beauty of the basilica and palace gardens.
During their stay in Oradea, the Austrian deacons visited the charitable institutions and programs they have helped support over the years. They spent time at the Soup kitchen, assisting in the distribution of hot meals, participated in activities at the Saint Elizabeth and Saint Martin Elderly Homes, and delivered donations to pupils of the Lucreția Suciu School, children attending the Bread of Life Community kindergarten, and several families in need.
In addition to their charitable activities, the visitors also had the opportunity to explore the city. They admired Oradea’s Art Nouveau city center, visited the New Town Reformed Church under the guidance of Pastor Gyöngyi Herdean, and toured the Oradea Fortress and Mushroom Hill.
The visit concluded with a Holy Mass celebrated in the chapel of the Saint Joseph Center. The liturgy was led by Canon József Rajna, Director of Caritas Catolica, with three deacons concelebrating—an exceptional occasion. It was a great joy to meet in person and spend meaningful time with these remarkable people, who have done so much for those in need in Oradea and continue to support our community from afar. We thank them for their visit and look forward to welcoming them again as we continue our work with renewed spiritual strength.
