As part of the annual program, the offered wheat is collected from all counties of Hungary and from the Hungarian-inhabited areas of the Carpathian Basin and distributed to charities supporting those in need. More than 55 tons of wheat have been collected by the staff of the Village Farmer Network in Bihor County this year.
This is about 10 times the amount collected in the previous year. Caritas Catolica was one of the beneficiaries of this years program, as the largest social service provider in Bihor county. Caritas Catolica provides hot lunches for more than 100 homeless people every day in two soup kitchens, and also provides complete meals for 140 elderly home residents.
